The leather in all of Arte & Cuoio products is dyed in Tuscany using traditional methods which date back to the early XIX century. The leather is tanned using chestnut bark and mimosa extracts, and is then placed in wooden barrels to soak up animal fat to grease it, after which it is then left to dry naturally before polishing with amber. Its characteristic lines and veining as well as any tiny imperfections testify to the natural processes used, since only leather with no synthetic coating can have such an aspect. With its distinctive smell and sensitivity to light this leather will age and increase in its beauty over time, even changing colour. Each article may not be completely uniform in colour, owing to the skin’s natural surface which may absorb the pigment to a greater or lesser extent in any given point. The grease used in the tanning process may come to the surface resulting in the presence of a light film which may be removed by buffing with either the soft brush or cloth to be found in the special leather care kit, these tools can also be used to apply the leather care cream provided. All products are made up and sewn together using strong Danish thread. The leather is cut to leave a crisp raw edge
